Upsilon Chapter
2011 Newsletters
November 29, 2011
Hello, Ladies,
I want to thank Beth Dwyer and Bonnie Young, our local scholarship recipients, for a great program. They traveled to France this past spring, or as they explained, they ate their way through France!!!! The pictures were fabulous and those in attendance enjoyed the program. I also want to thank the hostesses Dorothy Sanchez and Shirley Lambert. Everything was yummy!
Cindy Demarest put Upsilon Chapter on a website linked to Omega State and DKG International. The address is http://dkgupsilon.weebly.com. She did a great job and quickly too! Please check it out. Shirley Lambert sent an article to Omega Peaks Newsletter last month. Please look for it in the next publication. Under committees, please put Cindy Demarest and Shirley Lambert as Communications. Shirley Lambert volunteered to be on the Nominations Committee, so please add her name to that committee.
Janet Steiner and Kathy Roman are working on buying books for Books for Babies. We received a $100 from our flower deliveries in May. Cindy also sent a donation to the fund. For our Strategic Plan, we discussed working with our Books for Babies Project, then perhaps finance. Hopefully in January we can get it going. A discussion about membership took place and we find that young teachers just don't want to join … anything. The one thing DKG has to offer is scholarships … guess we just have to do the best we can and continue to talk to potential members when we can.
Christmas Brunch is December 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the United Methodist Church Hall in Salida. The cost is $12.00. Please bring a Toy for Tots and a World Fellowship donation. I need an RSVP by December 3rd. If I don't hear from you, I will call you! I already have an RSVP from Carole, Janet Judy, Bonnie, Shirley, and Dorothy so they need not reply again. Thanks ladies. We have also invited the two student teachers from Salida.
I hope to see you all on the 10th.

Dear Ladies,
On October 22, 2011, Omega State President, Donna Hoover, Omega State Finance Chairperson, Sarah Helman, Omega State Treasurer, Lilly Vigil, and Upsilon Chapter members enjoyed a delicious salad luncheon at the Grace Church Fellowship Hall in Buena Vista. Due to illness of Alpha Sigma members, only Lilly Vigil from Alpha Sigma was able to join us. I think everyone had a pleasant afternoon.
After the great lunch and visiting, President Donna Hoover spoke on the Strategic Action Plan, and the International
organization projects "Schools For Africa" and "Early Career Educators" (THAT). Mrs. Hoover left volunteer sheets that I will give out in November and chapter monetary sheets for the THAT project.
Lilly Vigil addressed the group about bullying and shared a book written by an author from Leadville. She, also,
commented on getting members and chapters/treasurers being careful to get reports to the Federal Government on
time.
Sarah Helman stated that Omega State is in good financial standings, and that her committee presented a balanced budget at the October 15, 2011 Board Meeting in Denver.
Shirley Lambert sent an article about the October meeting to Omega State Peaks. Thank you, Shirley!
Omega State will be celebrating its 75th birthday (November 28, 1936) with a tea sometime in January or February at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. The hotel was the setting for the first Omega State meeting. I will keep you posted on the date and time. It would be great if several of us could go!
International is celebrating the first World Fellowship awards that were given in 1946 to four (4) German women. It would be fun at our Christmas brunch to collect money in some combination of 1946 i.e. $19.46 or $20 or $194.06 (I can dream!!)
We lost only one member this year because of moving. Please continue to think about new members. A thank you goes to Shirley Lambert, our treasurer, for getting our dues in to State on time.
Janet Steiner and Kathy Roman are on the lookout for books for our Chapter project, Books for Babies. Good news!!!!
Thanks to Bonnie Young we finally received a check for the May flower deliveries of $100 and immediately put it into the fund.
I still need one more member on the Nominations Committee. We will be electing a slate of officers in April.
DON'T FORGET TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS: CHRISTMAS BRUNCH DECEMBER 10, 2011 AT 11:00 A.M. AT THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN SALIDA----$12. I will e-mail and/or call you for reservations the first weekend in December. Our Chapter will again do Toys for Tots. I will get invitations out to the two (2) student teachers.
Our next chapter meeting will be on November 15, 2011 at 6:00 PM (notice the time change this year) at the Grace Church Fellowship Hall in Buena Vista. The program will be given by Beth Dwyer and Bonnie Young, chapter scholarship recipients. Hostesses are Dorothy Sanchez and Shirley Lambert. I will pass out International's forms for committee chairs that need to be filed by February 1, 2012.
I hope I haven’t forgotten to tell you something important!!! Well, enjoy the autumn days!
