About Delta Kappa Gamma
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary Society of women educators. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education, as well as in advancing the status of women educators. To this end, the Purposes set forth by the Founders continue to embody the spirit of the Society. The Purposes have grown and changed over time, but continue to be as valid in today's contemporary world as when first adopted. Membership is by invitation only and considered a prestigious honor with a variety of benefits and privileges.

Purposes
The Purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International shall be
1. to unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship;
2. to honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of
education;
3. to advance the professional interest and position of women in education;
4. to initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of
education and of women educators;
5. to endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant
fellowships to non-member women educators;
6. to stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in
appropriate programs of action; and
7. to inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they
may participate effectively in a world society.

Symbols
The colors of Delta Kappa Gamma are red and gold. Red is for courage, and gold is for loyalty to our members and the Society.
The flower is the red rose, a beautiful creation that reflects the beauty of mind and spirit.
The coat of arms consists of a red shield with a band of gold and three Tudor roses on the band which symbolize the Society's ideals of friendship, loyalty and helpfulness. The flaming lamp and open book signify scholarship and knowledge. The laurel sprays are the traditional symbol of achievement.
